Price rise

Dear Customers

Unfortunately we have been forced to review our prices and there are rises across the board. Its not something we like to do however its necessary if we are to continue. Looking at our oppositon we are still extremely competetive and as always we believe our product to be second to none in quality. Looking forward to hearing from you all soon

Hong Kong

We're very excited to announce that The Hungry Pet products are now available in Hong Kong.  For a small company like us this is a major coup and is the result of months of work. Our products can be found on their website BORD however it is mostly in chinese. We have been appointed as a supplier for Hong Kong, China and Macau however the people at BORD have initially released our products in Hong Kong to test the market

Learning all the requirments for exporting has been a steep learning curve however it was gratifying to know that our product itself was of a high enough standard to be acceptable as it was.

So if you happen to be in Hong Kong with your pet then rest assured that you can carry on feeding them their usual high quality diet from The Hungry pet

Fit for Purpose

We have recently been having trouble with our mail server so please accept my appologies if I haven't replied to your enquiry. We now have a new address which seems to have solved the problem.

Recently two things have been bugging me. Firstly the dry food manufacturers have been going to great pains in their advertising to point out that they buy their meat from  'human consumption' plants and secondly a new vegan site made comments that raw petfood such as we make is not fit for human consumption so therefore is not fit for your animals. The correct legal requirements for our labels is 'Not intended for Human consumption' so it would help to understand how it applies.

All meat processed in NZ be it for pet food or Human Consumption is classified into three grades. They are

Low risk  -  Immediately fit for purpose

Medium risk  - fit for purpose providing it is cooked

High risk -  not fit for purpose and must be destroyed

Dry food manufacturers would love you to think that they call up Riverlands and buy up loads of prime steak etc but what they do in reality is purchase medium risk products. This includes such things as meat pulp, floor drop and deseased parts such as abcesses. There is no inherent danger in this as they are cooked at extreme temperatures.

At our plant only meat that has been inspected before and after slaughter and is deemed low risk is used and everything else is discarded. The animals we collect are commonly injured  or simply to old to go to the works. The reality is that any meat you purchase from a licensed raw food manufacturer in New Zealand will be a high quality product that is far superior to the products that end up in your pets dry biscuits.

Another reason we have to be licensed and have such a high operating standard is the fact that world wide there is a percentage of petfood consummed by humans. Our products are  found in your fridges and next to your food so must be safe. So there you have it. We make a safe, natural and nutritious product that you can feed to your pets with complete confidence

Regards

Grant

Welcome

Welcome to the first of what I hope will be many blogs. People who know me will tell you that when it comes to technology and all things internet related I am somewhat of a dinosaur so I am delighted that our site is now up and running. I have been in this industry for some time now so I hope to use this forum to pass on the odd bit of wisdom I have gleaned over the years.

Within our Industry there are two main debates that have been going on for some time now so initially I'd like to make it very clear where I stand and in future blogs I'll offer up some arguments in support of what I believe.

Firstly the great debate between dry processed foods against raw natural foods. Clearly I believe that 5 million years of evolution is superior to less than 100 years of so called 'Scientifically formulated' heavily processed foods and I'm looking forward to making my case.

Secondly - is your dog a carnivore or an omnivore ?

My opinion is that your dog is a CARNIVORE!

If you Google these two questions you will get so much information and so many conflicting arguments your head will spin. Clearly if youre on our site you will at least have an interest in raw feeding so hopefully you will have found some products that suit your needs. Our goal is to produce and supply a natural healthy and nutritious product that is cost effective and which will contribute to a long and healthy life for your pet.
